The focus of the 13-15 April meeting of our working group education in Leipzig was on the education of children and young people with a migrant background.
In a 'critical but constructive' manner, the participants reviewed Leipzig’s related initiatives. They also visited KIFaZ, a children and family centre in one of Leipzig’s most deprived neighbourhoods; 16. Schule, a secondary school with a high rate of early school leavers, which seeks to provide all students the possibility to graduate; and Berufliches Schulzentrum 7, a vocational training school, which aims to guide early school leavers and other hard-to-reach youth back to school or work.
The group offered recommendations which were presented to the stakeholders and debated. The results of this exercise will be presented in a dedicated publication together with results from the previous meetings in Oslo, Birmingham and Ghent.
Nantes was elected vice-chair of the working group to support the chair Gothenburg as chair.
