We have teamed up with The Centre, Edelman Brussels’ forum for debate, for a series of events focusing on some of the big policy issues for cities.
The series will explore how to better tackle some of Europe’s/society’s current challenges by joining up European and local solutions.
The first event takes place on 12 May on the theme of ‘tackling unemployment with Europe’s big cities’. Unemployment is one of Europe’s most urgent challenges, and the consequences are concentrated in our cities. In addition to economic issues, unemployment can have a serious impact on social cohesion. We will discuss how to speed up results on the ground for the young and long term unemployed; the role of local knowledge of skills and labour market in tackling unemployment; and partnerships between the EU, national and city governments to tackle the challenge.
Daniël Termont, mayor of Ghent, will discuss our declaration on work, launched in February, together with other panelists and the audience.
