The dialogue will engage cities in direct exchange with WHO Europe on public health measures in the context of urban preparedness and local response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
While cities are particularly vulnerable to the outbreak due to their high network density and socioeconomic activity, local governments are at the forefront of responding to the current public health emergency; this involves key measures related to essential services, logistics, prevention and containment measures, supporting vulnerable communities and awareness raising among the population. In a rapidly evolving context, many cities across Europe are implementing transition strategies with a gradual lifting of confinement measures to manage the pandemic. Moreover, cities are looking into measures to strengthen community well-being, post-pandemic resilience and capacity for a sustainable recovery which leaves no one behind.
The city dialogue will focus on the following topics:
- Key considerations in planning for urban prepardness in the context of COVID-19
- Reinforcing community networks and resilience
- Psychosocial support and mental heatlh
- Reaching out to vulnerable groups
The dialogue is open to all EUROCITIES members and will be of particular interest for social and health departments directly involved in COVID-19 response. Participants will be able to get acquainted with the latest WHO technical guidance and resources for cities and local governments throughout the meeting.
