We have produced a video highlighting Newcastle’s not for profit employment service Newcastle Futures.
Our five-minute video features interviews with service users, service providers and local politicians.
Newcastle Futures is an innovative service designed to enhance the services provided by the national public employment service in the UK, JobCentre Plus. By integrating services at local level and providing specialised support to vulnerable groups in the area, such as young adults, over 50s, single parents and people living in deprived areas, Newcastle Futures is reducing the duplication of services in the city and saving council resources.
As part of the service from Newcastle Futures, staff go out into the community to meet people in informal settings, including childcare centres, youth centres, libraries and even cafes. It also offers clients help with issues such as budget management, ICT skills and interview preparation.
Through Newcastle Futures, the city has managed to enhance the standard employability support services by tailoring them to local needs. Since the scheme was set up in 2007, it has helped over 5,000 people into employment. This has boosted the local labour market and had a positive impact on clients’ quality of life.
