The European Commission DG Home has approved VALUES - Volunteering Activities to Leverage Urban and European Social integration of migrants, a new project on integration led by EUROCITIES.

The VALUES project will focus on community building at local level for integration through volunteering activities. VALUES will help to share the lessons learned in this process at local level and replicate good and proven practices in cities willing to build their capacity on this topic. It will also build the capacity of city staff and volunteer groups through contacts and exchanges with similar actors across Europe. The project will provide an opportunity for cities to strengthen their ties with the civil society and local volunteering actions on integration.

VALUES is a continuation of the ImpleMentoring and CITIES GROW projects, building on the experience gathered using the mentoring methodology, with several modifications based on the cities’ feedback to these projects. Firstly, cities will be gathered around “communities of practice”, rather than paired as before, so that more than two cities at a time are discussing and learning from each other thus maximising the knowledge transfer. And secondly, VALUES will organise city staff and volunteer exchanges aimed at improving the coordination and relationships of cities in working with volunteers and civil society organisations on integration. EUROCITIES will lead a consortium of other 18 partners, including the expert organisations MigrationWork and the European Volunteer Centre (CEV), and the cities of Amsterdam, Bristol, Brno, Cesena, Dusseldorf,  Madrid, Nuremberg, Ostend, Riga, Sheffield, Terrassa, Thessaloniki, Toulouse, Turin, Oslo and Zurich (the latter two as associate partners).
The project is expected to start in February 2019 and will last two years.
