Our working group housing met on 6-7 May in Vienna to discuss social housing in cities.
Delegates from nine European cities exchanged good practices and presented their strategies to meet the growing demand for affordable housing in urban areas.
Vienna organised three study visits to showcase their social housing projects. These included a passive social housing building and Vienna’s Urban Lakeside project, a development of social, affordable and private housing complemented by the appropriate services, such as public transport and shops.
The working group committed to continuing its work on making the case for affordable housing at European level and will organise a workshop on this at the beginning of 2016. The next meeting will take place in Brussels to discuss state aid rules concerning housing and to prepare the workshop.
