Local and regional networks on Energy Union governance

  • environment

EUROCITIES signed a joint statement with Europe's leading local and regional networks on 28 April entitled: 'Energy Union governance: The 3 musts for a new collaborative planning regime'.

The European Commission launched its Energy Union strategy on 25 February 2015 to ensure that Europe has secure access to affordable and climate-friendly energy.

The three 'musts' we outline in our joint statement are:

  • a dedicated chapter on multilevel cooperation for energy and climate planning and reporting

  • co-design of national energy and climate plans by national, regional and local governments in collaboration with different stakeholders

  • integration of local and subnational plans and reporting frameworks into national energy and climate planning and reporting
