Lisbon received the title of European Capital of Sport 2021. Six other members of EUROCITIES got the title of European City of Sport 2018: Banja LuKa, Braga, Cluj-Napoca, Klaipeda, Kortijki and Ostend. In 2018, the European Capital of Sport is Sofia.
The titles were awarded during a ceremony at the European Parliament on 6 December. The awards recognise cities as drivers of social inclusion and well-being through sport.

The titles of European Capital of Sport and European City of Sport title are awarded annually by ACES Europe, which is a non-profit association based in Brussels that works for recognising sport as a vehicle for improving social cohesion in communities.
