Essen and Umea have been selected as finalists for European Green Capital 2017 along with ‘s-Hertogenbosch and Nijmegen.
Essen, ‘s-Hertogenbosch, Nijmegen and Umea are the four finalists for the European Green Capital award 2017.
The European Green Capital award recognises cities’ efforts, commitments and innovative approaches to resolving environmental challenges. It encourages cities to take action and to showcase and share good practices.
The winning city will be announced at a ceremony in Bristol, current European Green Capital, on 18 June 2015.
This year also saw the launch of the European Green Leaf 2015 award, open to smaller cities. Only cities with over 100,000 inhabitants are eligible to apply for the Green Capital award.
