On 12 December 2017, EUROCITIES organised a workshop on the Clean Mobility Package, published on 8 November 2017 by the European Commission. The event enabled EUROCITIES members to go into the details of the various proposals included in this 2nd Mobility Package, following the publication of the 1st Package on 31 May 2017.
DG MOVE introduced the key proposals of the Package, which are organised around transport management, clean vehicles and alternative fuels. Brussels-based transport organisations were also invited to provide their first reactions and positions on the Package – this included Transport & Environment (T&E), UITP and POLIS.
The second part of the workshop corresponded to a closed session for EUROCITIES members only. It helped to identify key issues for cities linked to the different proposals of the Package, and to collect follow up points to be included into a draft EUROCITIES position paper in January 2018.
Key urban aspects from the 1st Mobility Package were highlighted too, including the revision of the Eurovignette Directive and the proposal on Interoperability of the Electronic Tolling Systems. It was agreed to draft a short EUROCITIES statement on these points in January 2018 and to carry out advocacy work on these dossiers at the European Parliament and the Council early 2018.
