Daniël Termont, mayor of Ghent, has become the new president of EUROCITIES.
Daniël Termont takes over as EUROCITIES president from Johanna Rolland, mayor of Nantes, who has served as president since November 2014.
He will lead the network for the next two years, supported by Karin Wanngård, mayor of Stockholm, as vice president.
The new president was announced on Friday 18 November during our annual conference, EUROCITIES 2016 Milan (16-18 November).
Building on the messages of our 'rethinking Europe' debate in Milan the previous day, Daniël Termont confirmed his desire to build the profile of cities in Europe and work more closely with the EU institutions and national governments to strengthen the European project. He stressed that cities are ready and willing to work in partnership with the EU and national levels to 'rethink' the European project, a message conveyed in our open letter on Europe.
