The Covenant of Mayors and the Smart Cities and Communities initiative will host a conference on European cities as drivers of energy transition on 17 June, the dedicated 'cities day' at European Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW).
The morning session will focus on cities' contribution to the objectives of the EU's Energy Union. It will demonstrate cities' progress towards achieving the EU climate and energy goals, and will build on concrete experience and local initiatives.
In the afternoon, European Commission vice president, Maroš Šefčovič, will reflect on the Covenant of Mayors and Smart Cities and Communities initiatives. The commissioner will participate in a panel discussion with speakers from cities, communities and industry highlight the holistic planning approach in their work towards becoming more sustainable cities.
