Cities across Europe can now apply to become the European Youth Capital in 2021. The title is awarded by the European Youth Forum to a different European city each year. The award is recognising the efforts and initiatives of the municipality in making the city more youth-friendly and boosting the role of young people and youth organisations in the community.

The award encourages municipalities working with young people to continue and expand the implementation of new ideas and innovative projects. Applicant cities are invited to submit a programme of activities for youth participation and youth empowerment for one year.
Interested cities need to complete an application form by which to submit the first ‘concept note’ with their vision for the activities to be organised during the European Youth Capital, including the following:
  • city’s past performance in the youth field
  • motivation to become a European Youth Capital
  • key challenges to be addressed
  • a programme of activities to meet the proposed goals
  • explain how young people will be involved in the process
  • propose a governance structure
  • detail the financial resources to implement the activities proposed
  • anticipate the impact of the European Youth Capital year on the city
The deadline to submit the application is 21 January 2018 (23:59 CET). Find more information about the European Youth Capital 2021 here:
Cascais is the European Youth Capital 2018. Novi Sad will hold the title in 2019 and Amiens in 2020.
