From 7-10 October 2019, the European Week of Regions and Cities will focus on the topic 'Regions and cities, pillars of the EU's future'.
The applications to become a partner of this important EU event, have been open since 30 January. Local and regional authorities,as well as EU institutions, national authorities, European associations of local and regional authorities, can apply until 29 March to actively take part in the event.
As of last year, there are two types of event partners: the partners and the regional partnerships. Cities can take part in a regional partnership, comprising a group of min. 4 and max.10 European regions and/or cities from at least 4 Member States organising together a session during the EU Regions Week in Brussels.
This year, some novelties for the regional partnerships are important to notice:
- Members of the European Economic Area are fully eligible as partners
- Regions and cities from a same country per Regional Partnerships should not represent more than one third of the partners of the partnership
- The organisation of a local event is no longerv a condition to apply as Regional Partnership
Cities and regions can only take part in one regional partnership.
This year, the event aims to be gender balanced, paperless and sustainable. To be eligible, a session should respect these criteria.
