Highlights from the Social Affairs Forum in Utrecht, 7-8 March 2018
On 7-8 March, the social affairs forum met in Utrecht. A record number of 175 participants from over 50 cities, including 15 elected city politicians and representatives of the European Commission, OECD and UN-HABITAT, took part in the meeting. They agreed cities play a key role in translating the Sustainable Development Goals into relevant actions at local level and involving citizens in the process.

New EUROCITIES technical report sheds light on lessons learned from cities experiences with the European Social Fund in 2014-2017
EUROCITIES carried out a survey to examine the experiences of cities with ESF during the first half of the funding period 2014-2020. We analysed the ESF practices of 32 cities from 13 EU member states. The survey collected evidence on the implementation of ESF in cities between 2014-2017 directly from city authorities. The responses fed into a comparative analysis to identify trends across cities and map good practices.

The fight is on: how will cities cope post 2020?
The debate on the EU budget (or post 2020 Multiannual Financial Framework) is now in full swing here in Brussels, and it’s becoming increasingly complicated. The financial priorities of cities over the next seven years face serious challenges from Brexit, as well as from the rising status of European defence and security, and from financial instruments and loans.
