Since November 2016, EUROCITIES WG metropolitan areas has been closely following an in-depth qualitative study (so called, targeted analysis) on spatial dynamics and spatial planning in metropolitan areas (SPIMA) involving ten of our members across Europe (Brno, Brussels, Lille, Lyon, Oslo, Prague, Terrassa, Torino, Vienna and Zurich).
The research project, funded by the ESPON 2020 programme, has produced its final report which is a ground-breaking piece of work in understanding the stages and dynamics of metropolitan cooperation. The conclusions will be presented and discussed at the final conference organized by Oslo, the lead partner together with ESPON and EUROCITIES on 6 February 2018 in the Norway House in Brussels. The event will promote the work and the metropolitan perspective, seeking to gain stronger recognition of how to enable collaboration at the metropolitan scale, for both national and European actors.
“There will be a lot more work to do in communicating and using this study, and we hope to build on it in our future work through EUROCITIES” (Peter Austin, Oslo).
