Each forum is able to set up a limited number of working groups focusing on specific policy issues. Each working group has a specific remit and tasks, for example preparing a position paper on a particular topic, or managing activities such as a European project or campaign.

Each working group consists of individuals, nominated by member cities, who are considered as having relevant knowledge and expertise. Each working group is chaired by a member city, which is also responsible for reporting back to the relevant forum on the results achieved.

Air quality, climate change & energy efficiency

The working group addresses air quality and climate change issues affecting cities in Europe.

Barrier-free city for all

The WG will continue its cooperation with the Commission on the implementation of the European Disability Strategy 2010-2020 to improve barrier-free accessibility in Europe. It will also work with the Commission on the Phase 2 of the EU Mandat M/420 European Accessibility Requirements in Public Procurement in the built environment, etc.

City attractiveness

The Working Group will focus on how building the identity of the city and using city branding and marketing can reinforce strategic plans for growth and prosperity by attracting investment, business, culture, people and tourism.

Clean cities

Promoting clean and attractive cities and changing behaviour on illegal depositing of litter and waste and other activities which have a negative impact on the urban environment and citizens' quality of life.

Climate change and energy

Ensuring political engagement and dialogue with EU institutions on climate change issues, through cooperation with other stakeholders such as CEMR, Energy Cities, Climate Alliance or C40 where needed.

Cohesion policy & structural funds

The working group coordinates EUROCITIES lobbying vis-à-vis the EU institutions and Member States on EU Cohesion Policy and Structural Funds to ensure a sufficient urban focus in regulatory frameworks.

Creative industries

This Working Group is a joint Working Group of the EUROCITIES Culture Forum and the EUROCITIES Economic Development Forum.

Cultural access and entitlement

The objective of the WG is to identify, define and compare policies and action plans implemented by European cities regarding accessibility of cultural spaces and services. All aspects of accessibility (social, cultural, intellectual, physical, and financial) are taken into consideration.

Culture and young people

EUROCITIES considers that communication between young people, decision makers and other related actors should be more focused on the needs of young people.

Developing a new mobility culture

The WG’s mandate aims at sharing best practice and developing positions linked to EU policy work, e.g. on the new White Paper on Transport and the Urban Mobility Action Plan. The WG’s positions and advocacy work ensure that proper account is taken of urban mobility issues without restricting cities’ freedom to address local issues in the most appropriate ways. It also feeds into EUROCITIES’ position and Commission’s thinking on mobility issues in the next EU budget and influence DG MOVE studies on transport funding/financing and internalisation of external costs.
